FG in talks with ASUU on strikeTHE Federal Government hasexpressed worry at the distortion in schoolcalendar as a result of the ongoingAcademic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU,strike, saying that it is committed to thespeedy resolution of the crisis for the sakeof Nigerian students.Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, toldState House correspondents at the end ofyesterday’s Federal Executive Council, FEC,meeting that government was committed to“serious negotiations” with the universitylecturers.He appealed to students and parents to bearwith government and show moreunderstanding as efforts are being made toresolve the contending issues very soon.He said: “The Federal Government has beenfar more worried than you thinkconcerning the strike in tertiary institutions,because of the disruption of the schoolcalendar and so government is concernedand very worried.“Since the onset of the strike, governmenthas been negotiating with ASUU throughthe Ministry of Labour and Productivity andthe Ministry of Education.“We know that these negotiations are goingon and it is our expectation that this strikewill not get more protracted and that anunderstanding will be reached soon.”please do well to share this!!!
